Terry Jessup started coaching runners in 1972 but before he was a running coach, he was a runner in his hometown of Bloemfontein, South Africa. Terry started running at the age of 17 and he had his own coach that made a lasting impression on his life, his coach was Terry’s father Dudley Jessup. Like his father Terry has made an impact on other runners and coaches alike. Terry lived in South Africa until his Freshman year of College at age 22, when he traveled to the USA.
So, very British, Terry’s father was name Dudley Ansel Jessup and his mom Sheila Helen Lynch was Irish. Before marrying in Cairo, Egypt near the end of world war 2. Terry’s dad was mostly a tank driver in the war, chasing Germans across northern Africa in the early 1942’s.
His mom (less than 20) was a young South African that joined the Women’s Air Core. Shortly after they were married in Egypt she was shipped back to South Africa and his Dad followed right after the war was about to end.
The kenw each other back in the Bloemfontein area of South Africa before the war and after marriage Terry Jessup was born November 26, 1964 in Bloem.
Terry isn’t one to toot his own horn, much like his father but back in his hay day, Terry’s dad trained Pieter Labuschagne whom editor Mark Salter wrote an article titled
